Narbutas and Audėjas joined forces for sustainability. The two Lithuanian companies have introduced Austea, a furniture fabric collection made from 100% recycled raw materials.
Audėjas and Narbutas International, two long-established companies in the country, have been collaborating for many years now. The Austea project was implemented with the aim of creating a sustainable product alternative, reducing CO2 emissions and improving logistics. The Austea project is particularly attractive when it comes to planning a shorter logistical distance, as the Narbutas factory in Ukmergė is less than 100 kilometres from the Audėjas factory in Vilnius.
'Our decision to follow a sustainable path dictated the creation of Austea woven in Lithuania. We are one of the leading manufacturers of office furniture and sell our products in 60 countries, so our choices have an impact on the environment', Dovydas Balaišis, Narbutas International Head of Product Development, said.
The Austea fabric is made from 100% recycled polyester yarn using Repreve technology, which uses plastic bottles collected from the seas, oceans, their shores and other natural environments. Around 30 million plastic bottles are recycled per year using this process.
The idea behind Austea’s colour palette is to convey the nature of Lithuania. 'You can see the green of our forests, the blue of our lakes and the yellowish dunes of the seaside in these fabrics. The collection consists of fabrics in 13 colours. It is a melange twill fabric that gives a cosy, homely feel and is in line with the latest office trend of working as comfortably as at home.'
The fabrics in this collection can be used for various Narbutas product categories: lounge seaters, chairs, most of the acoustic products and some of the hard-surface furniture. A 10-year warranty, introduced a year ago, underpins the company’s commitment to the high quality, durability and timeless design of its products.
