Paola Lenti is a part of Artissima, Italy's premier annual fair celebrating contemporary art, held at the Lingotto venue in Turin. For Artissima 2023, Paola Lenti will adorn the lounge area with the Metamorfosi collection, designed by the Campana Brothers, Fernando and Humberto, who are celebrated worldwide for their creations fashioned from reclaimed or discarded materials.
The Metamorfosi collection embodies an ethical vision embraced by the Campana Brothers. It revolves around minimizing waste and creating with existing resources while maintaining a profound respect for humanity and the environment. Paola Lenti has tapped into its reservoir of production remnants – scraps, selvedges, and fabric off-cuts in a myriad of hues, carefully preserved over the years. These remnants have been repurposed to create a special edition of pieces, seamlessly straddling the realms of design objects and artworks.
This collection comprises five handcrafted seats and a tapestry. The pieces are a result of free-spirited sewing of cords and fabric fragments onto coverings that also originate from recycling. The selection for Artissima includes two expansive sofa-platforms and two bench-style seating with zoomorphic shapes. Their vibrant surfaces evoke seagrass or whimsical, unconventional flowers, akin to the puffs of the Albizia, a tropical plant found in Africa and Asia. Named Chromodoro, Zoide, and Bruco, these seats are inspired by various animal and sea organisms, providing a relaxing retreat for Artissima's visitors throughout the event's three days.
Artissima's thirtieth edition promises to be an unmissable experience. With 181 galleries hailing from 33 countries across 4 continents, divided into 7 unique exhibition sections, the event encapsulates the global contemporary art scene. Moreover, it plays a pivotal role in fostering exhibitions and events within numerous foundations, galleries, and museums throughout Turin. These include the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GAM), the Fondazione Merz, and the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea.
The theme for the 2023 edition is Relations of Care, suggested by anthropologist Renzo Taddei. Taddei advocates for care as the cornerstone and objective of progress, emphasizing its role in preserving the diversity and value of every form of life on our planet. This vision aligns seamlessly with the design philosophy underpinning the Metamorfosi collection.
