Decline in German export industry

The German export industry faces a subdued mood, marked by a decline in sentiment, according to the latest data from the Ifo Institute. In December, the Ifo export expectations plummeted to minus 6.7 points, contrasting with the previous month's figures at minus 4.1 points.

The projections paint a bleak picture across various sectors, notably within automotive manufacturing, which previously anticipated a steadier trajectory but now foresees a downturn. Similarly, the mechanical engineering segment foresees a reduction in overseas orders. Sectors heavily reliant on energy, such as chemicals and metalworking, are grappling with tough conditions.

On the other hand, the food industry and beverage manufacturers foresee an increase in exports. Leather product manufacturers also expect higher export turnover.
