The cost of shipping a 40ft container from China has tripled in just one month due to the crisis in the Red Sea where Houthi rebels from Yemen are attacking container ships affiliated with Israel using missiles.
The shipping cost for a 40-foot container from the Chinese port of Shanghai to the port of Rotterdam has risen from 1,442 US dollars to 4,951 US dollars since mid-December. Last fall, container rates actually reached their lowest level since the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis.
