Vitamin Collection by Marcantonio for Seletti

Fruits and vegetables transformed into original illuminated objects

Loved worldwide for their unconventional way of reinterpreting reality, Italian figurative design brand Seletti presents Vitamin: Marcantonio's colorful new lighting project at Milan Design Week 2024. The enduring chemistry between the design brand and the artist-designer is now reinforced with a new collection of abat-jours, candelabra, chandeliers, and candle holders, in which the unexpected protagonists are tasty vegetables and fresh fruits.

'We came up with lively objects that bring vibrant and dynamic atmospheres to everyday life, animating the typical fruit and vegetable markets,' says Stefano Seletti, artistic director of Seletti. 'Marcantonio always represents our figurative approach to design in a novel way, exploring imagination and fantasy through products.'

Marcantonio continues to experiment with images drawn from the natural world, now interpreting fruits and vegetables in a unique and original way. Not only does it fill everyday spaces with colour, but it also pays tribute to the benefits of fruits and vegetables. The name Vitamin serves to emphasise how crucial they are to everyone's nourishment and well-being.

'From a young age we were taught to not play with food, but what if playing was really a way to celebrate the importance and beauty of these foods that energise and nourish us every day?' says artist-designer Marcantonio. 'For this new project with Seletti, I wanted to produce functional sculptures of eggplants, carrots, lemons, pumpkins, and peaches in an unlikely and magical balance.'

A tomato supports a carrot that itself holds up a lemon; an orange becomes the base of a banana that lifts up an eggplant; arrangements of peppers, peaches, cucumbers, and even pumpkins, eggplants, watermelons, pears, pineapples, and lemons give shape to sculptural bright objects, unprecedented and colourful products in which fruits and vegetables are always fresh and in season.
