IKEA opens new customer distribution centre in France

In a move signalling its commitment to expanding its footprint in France, IKEA recently inaugurated its sixth customer distribution centre in the Occitanie region, specifically in Toulouse. This latest addition comes as part of the Swedish furniture giant's strategy to enhance its presence in the country and adapt to changing consumer behaviour, particularly the increasing shift towards online shopping.

The new centre, covering an impressive area of 10,000 square meters, boasts a storage capacity of 9,100 square meters and features 12 loading docks. With the rise of e-commerce and the surge in online sales, which now constitute nearly a quarter of IKEA's total turnover in France, the establishment of this distribution centre is seen as a crucial step in meeting the growing demand for home deliveries in the region.

Customers in Occitanie, as well as those in Bordeaux and Montpellier, will benefit from expedited delivery times, with products now reaching their doorstep within two days instead of the previous five. This enhancement in service aligns with IKEA's overarching goal of providing convenient and efficient solutions to its customers while reinforcing its omnichannel strategy.

Moreover, the new centre underscores IKEA's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. IKEA aims to achieve 100% zero-emission home deliveries in the Toulouse area by 2025, demonstrating its dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to the transition towards greener logistics.

In addition to its environmental initiatives, IKEA remains committed to fostering local employment and inclusivity. The Toulouse location is expected to employ approximately 80 individuals, with a focus on training and recruiting from the local community. This emphasis on social responsibility aligns with IKEA's values of creating positive impact and supporting the communities it operates in.
