Industry resiliency showcased at High Point Market

Despite ongoing challenges in the furniture industry, the High Point Market was an exciting showcase over a sunny weekend in North Carolina. The fair took place last week, April 13-17.

Business of Home shares some of the insights:

Traffic conditions: While some regular attendees opted for Milan's Salone del Mobile, new registrations surged by 13.8%, compensating for their absence. Although official attendance numbers remained stable, individual showroom traffic varied, possibly due to earlier arrivals each year, spreading foot traffic across the market.

Risk-free launches: Many brands focused on-line extensions and variations of existing products rather than introducing entirely new collections, aiming for safer bets amidst economic volatility. While this strategy pleased crowds with familiar favourites, it resulted in fewer innovative designs.

Industry trends: Inventory control improved for most exhibitors, with order writing at the market showing healthy signs, especially in the high-end segment. However, lower-end retailers faced challenges with excess inventory, affecting sales. Manufacturers navigated complex supply chain issues, including sourcing from diverse global destinations.

Brands: Some brands took bold steps with groundbreaking collaborations and new introductions. For example, designer Amber Lewis's extensive collection for Four Hands broke sales records, and Pooky's inventive booth attracted admiration.

The next edition of High Point Market will be held October 26-30, 2024.
