Sought-after John Lennon and Yoko Ono home in the market for $5.5 million

John Lennon and Yoko Ono's initial residence in New York City, located in SoHo, has been put on the market for $5.5 million, marking the first time it has been available for sale in over 50 years.

The couple acquired the two-story property in 1971, shortly after the Beatles disbanded and Lennon released his solo album Imagine. They resided there until 1973, when they famously moved to the Dakota building on the Upper West Side.

Although Lennon tragically passed away outside the Dakota in 1980, Ono continued to live there for the subsequent five decades.

The loft-style building on Broome Street features a distinctive chequered glass facade and has been owned by Sekhmet Productions, a company managed by Ono and her son, Sean Ono Lennon.

The ground floor of the building currently includes a 14-foot-high gallery area, a living space with an open kitchen, and a bedroom loft with a skylight and an adjoining bathroom. The second floor features a similar gallery space in the front and a sound studio behind it.

Last year, Ono concluded her residency at the Dakota after 50 years, during which she played a pivotal role in shaping the building's legacy. She reportedly now resides on a farm in the Catskills.
