Home Alone house back on the market after 12 years

The 'Home Alone' house has returned to the market After 12 years. The owners are asking $5.25 million for the Chicago-area home, which they purchased for $1.585 million in 2012.

The house—a redbrick Georgian in Winnetka, Ill.—famously appeared as the home of Kevin McCallister in the film 'Home Alone', and fans often stop by to take pictures or re-create the movie's key scenes.

Now 'Home Alone' enthusiasts have a chance to purchase the house themselves. The Johnsons are putting the property on the market for the first time in 12 years, with an asking price of $5.25 million, a significant increase from the $1.585 million that Trisha and Tim, a partner at an accounting firm, paid in 2012, according to property records. The couple has extensively renovated the house, although several elements from the movie remain intact.

Winnetka is an affluent community on Lake Michigan's North Shore, about 20 miles north of Chicago. Originally built in the 1920s, the five-bedroom house sits on about half an acre and spans approximately 5,700 square feet, including a finished basement.

The current owners, the Johnsons have made sure to preserve features prominently featured in the film, such as the front door and the central staircase where Kevin goes sledding.
