Molteni&C's Paris Flagship Store was interpreted by Ron Gilad during the 2024 edition of Designer's Days. The designer, renowned for his ironic approach and endless effort in questioning our point of view with the hope of finding intriguing new angles, interpreted the theme of the 2024 edition of Designer's Days, Jeu!, in a playful rendezvous of art, design, and humour. The event took place from May 29 - June 1 in Paris.
The installation featured iconic images of culture, contemporarily interpreted in a radical yet elegant way. Two symbols of art are playfully paired with pieces from the Molteni&C collections: Teorema, a unique project by Ron Gilad that explores the form of a void featuring rotating volumes, and Augusto, the sophisticated sofa designed by Vincent Van Duysen, blending timelessness with contemporary flair.
The installation evokes the association between the words 'gioco', the Italian translation of 'jeu' and 'Gioconda', bringing together three great icons: the Mona Lisa, the city of Paris, and Italian design at its finest. The masterpiece of Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, La Gioconda, a subject with an enigmatic expression, is animated to reveal her emotions and tease the viewers while hiding behind a sofa.
A can of tomato soup coming out of the Teorema recalls the act of environmentalist protestors who, in January 2024, hurled soup at the bullet-proof glass protecting Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece in Paris, demanding the right to healthy and sustainable food. The result is a cultural soup, mixing Renaissance charm with Italian contemporary design and a pop of Warhol tomato "art sauce."
