The activity of specialty retail stores in May ended with a 3.1% increase compared to May 2023 (following a 3.8% decrease in April 2024), but this should be compared to a 3% decline in May 2023. So, there is a return to the revenue of May 2022, but with an inflation rate of 5 or 6% over the period.
The activity of stores in May 2024 was heavily impacted by holidays and public holidays, making it difficult to compare 2024 and 2023.

For the home sectors, activities vary widely depending on the sectors and companies, notably benefiting discount or second-hand product specialists. The sector average of the panel is slightly down (-1.5%), but the furniture and decoration sectors continue to face real difficulties with significant impacts on store sales (-8%).
It is evident that the "trauma" of high inflation in 2022/2023 is still lingering for consumers, and furthermore, the housing sector's blockade remains a significant handicap for these sectors.
