The EU Commission has considered removing the current threshold for customs duties in its plan to address challenges to the economy presented by low-cost giants Temu and Shein. This, according to sources from the Financial Times.

Customs duties are currently set at 150 euros, and products purchased below this threshold currently avoid additional charges in the form of customs duties. Those familiar with the low-cost giants Temu and Shein will know that the vast majority of their products are significantly cheaper than this threshold.
However, if this threshold is eliminated or significantly lowered, either the retailer or the consumer will have to pay customs duties even on cheaper imports.
