Belgian retail trade increased by 4,4% in May

Compared to the previous month, the volume of sales in Belgian retail trade, excluding fuels, has increased by 4.4% in May 2024.

As far as major sectors are concerned, experts register an increase of 4.8% for the retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating, of 4.2% for textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods in specialised stores, of 3.5% for the retail sale of other goods in specialised stores, of 3.1% for other household equipment in specialised stores and of 2.6% for automotive fuel in specialised stores.


Retail trade registered a decrease in its volume compared to May 2023
Compared to May 2023, the volume of sales in retail trade, excluding fuels, has decreased by 5.5%.

In the major trade sectors, analysts register a decrease of 8.9% in the sector of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods in specialised stores, of 8.3% for the retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating, of 5.4% for other household equipment in specialised stores, of 3.6% for other goods in specialised stores and of 0.8% for automotive fuel in specialised stores.
