German furniture manufacturer can no longer pay debts

The German furniture market is having a hard time. German exports were down 3.6% and imports dropped 6.6% on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis compared with April 2024. Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that exports decreased by 1.6% and imports fell by 8.7% compared with May 2023.

This hard time has also hit Ronald Schmitt. At the Mannheim court, the furniture manufacturer has filed a request for the opening of insolvency proceedings. This request is currently being assessed. Business activities are still running. Olaf Spiekermann has been appointed receiver.

In 2013, a bankruptcy of Ronald Schmitt Tische was avoided by an investment team led by Claus Lenzmann and the Wiese family, resulting in the company being renamed Ronald Schmitt Design. In 2020, Christian-Lutz Neubert joined as a partner, acquired all shares and took charge of management. Interior Journal reports that.

With an initial capital of 3,000 D-Mark and a Fiat 600, Ronald Schmitt's story began. At the end of the 1950s, after his experience at the furniture manufacturer Thonet as an administrative assistant, Ronald Schmitt decided to give up his profession and, together with his wife Ingeborg, take the step to self-employment in 1958. In the following years, he specialised his company in furniture production. Ronald Schmitt is known for its designer furniture, which is intended for private and professional applications. The range includes dining tables, coffee tables, side tables, and other furniture pieces.
