Future meets past: Heimtextil Trends curated by Alcova Milano for the first time

Known for questioning traditional design conventions and setting new impulses with their unconventional approach, Alcova Milano combines design with art, architecture, and other disciplines to create multi-layered and surprising presentations that transcend traditional design exhibitions. Heimtextil Trends 25/26 will present textiles in a new light, integrating both historical and forward-looking influences, under the curatorial direction of the founders of Alcova Milano.

Heimtextil has embarked on a new collaboration with the visionary minds of Alcova. The Alcova presentations, renowned during Milan Design Week, spotlight independent designers and have revitalised historical locations such as old bakeries and abandoned factories. Founded by curator and creative director Valentina Ciuffi and architect Joseph Grima, Alcova has been instrumental in merging traditional elements with contemporary design since its inception in 2018.

'The collaboration between Heimtextil and Alcova promises to push creative boundaries and set new impulses for the textile world. Together with Valentina Ciuffi, Joseph Grima, and their international network of experts, we are advancing the forward-looking character of Heimtextil Trends. With Alcova's dynamic approach, we aim to explore global changes and trends in the textile industry and invite visitors to reconsider the cultural and material significance of textiles,' says Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies.

Under the new title 'Future Continuous,' Heimtextil Trends 25/26 will present a continuous process of renewing and transforming past trends. These rediscoveries are more than nostalgic retrospectives; they are sources of inspiration for shaping a new future.

Language plays a crucial role in this trend research: 'Language helps us understand trends by describing their development over time. It enables us to analyze their significance and predict their future impact,' explains Valentina Ciuffi and Joseph Grima. Language thus becomes a key tool for understanding and communicating future developments.

Incorporating insights from designers, textile researchers, and Alcova's network, the Heimtextil Trends 25/26 will explore textiles from various perspectives, including politics, history, data ethics, and sustainable agriculture. The colour palette developed goes beyond visual perception, with each colour carrying a deeper emotional and cultural narrative.

In the 'Trend Arena' in Hall 3.0, visitors will experience how Alcova creatively links past and future trends in the textile industry. Heimtextil Trends 25/26 will act as a central highlight, challenging established views and opening new perspectives on textiles.
