For almost a century, The Peninsula has stood for exquisite luxury in the most beautiful places in the world. This tradition continues with the brand's first and latest opening in the United Kingdom. With an elegant British twist, a spectacular view of three royal parks, and a location neighbouring Buckingham Palace, the newly built 5-star hotel is now one of London's most prestigious addresses. Located next to the well-known landmarks of Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch, the twelfth branch of the famous Hong Kong hotel brand takes guests to the time-honoured Belgravia district, where streets are lined with elegant townhouses and embassies. The historic surroundings are reflected in the design of the new building, modelled on the Palazzo Farnese in Rome by Hopkins Architects. The façades are made of Portland stone, while finely curved floor-to-ceiling windows framed in bronze emphasize the subtle presence of the building without being obtrusive. Inside, an imposing lobby with high ceilings opens out onto Hyde Park, while the large inner courtyard conveys a sense of peace and privacy.
The hotel features 190 rooms and suites, several fine-dining restaurants, and a spacious, luxurious spa area. Star architect Peter Marino chose a design concept filled with light, inspired by the style of British manor houses. Custom-made furniture, carefully selected curtains and carpets, dark mahogany wood, and numerous original works of art create an ambiance that is cosy and familiar despite all the opulent details. Marino was supported by leading British artisans, including more than 40 creative artists from the Royal Drawing School.
Like the rooms and suites, the bathrooms also exude the sophisticated flair of a grand hotel. Light-coloured onyx streaked with clay-coloured veins covers the walls, complemented by natural stone mosaic floors, large mirrors, and chrome elements. Design fittings from Dornbracht are an integral part of the interior concept. The immortal, historic, and nostalgic form of Madison in Platinum, for example, evokes associations with the grandeur of the turn of the century. Peter Marino also opted for Dornbracht products in public areas such as the spa treatment room and the changing rooms.
