Martha Stewart turns spotlight on the importance of the entryway

Martha Stewart, renowned for her influence on home styling, is spotlighting a captivating entryway trend in 2024. Known for turning simple spaces into extraordinary statements, Stewart has revitalised the often-overlooked hallway with a touch of nature and historical craftsmanship.

Entryways, though frequently underappreciated in design plans, can become striking features with creative touches. Stewart's approach integrates an 'ancient' technique known as faux bois, which mimics wood using materials like concrete.

Her Maine home's hallway showcases this method through an artistic display of moss and seedling evergreens from her garden, perfectly complementing the surrounding classic timber. Faux bois, which translates to 'false wood' in French, is a time-honoured technique that has seen a revival thanks to its natural appeal and artistic flexibility.

Stewart's fascination with faux bois began when she commissioned artist Carlos Cortés to create large faux bois concrete tables for her Maine residence.
