Architecture and nature merge with new Surface Collection

Delve into the quiet elegance of the everyday with the Surface Collection — a new series of hand-tufted wool rugs by Morten Bo Jensen of Groundwork Studio for massimo copenhagen. This collection illuminates the subtle yet sublime patterns that enrich our daily surroundings. Designed to captivate both as a standalone piece and in harmony with the rest of the interior, the Surface Collection emerges with architectural finesse, rendered in monochromatic tones that echo the natural world.

Omnipresent textures
At first glance, the defining features of these rugs are their patterns, meticulously hand-tufted in two distinct pile heights, employing both classic pile and bouclé weaving techniques. Inspired by the rich textures surrounding us in our everyday life, these repetitive patterns add depth and character to the rugs' monochromatic geometric expression.

The collection aims to elevate interiors beyond mere color considerations and contribute to creating a harmonious ambience through the merging of surfaces, patterns, and textures.

Nature felt and seen
The Surface Collection's organic tones draw their inspiration from the shifting hues of the seasons and the rich palette of the forest floor, where leaves in varying shades offer a tapestry of natural colours. These organic tones, paired with the collection's patterns, are transformed into soft, three-dimensional geometric landscapes that introduce a pared-back monochrome tactility, catering to diverse interiors. The result is a design that is both simple and intricate, meticulously crafted in line with massimo's core values: superior quality, well-being, and positive impact on the environment.

Throughout the design process, meticulous attention was given to every aspect of the Surface Collection to ensure its adaptability for both residential and commercial spaces. Each detail — from the weaving techniques to the selection of materials — was rigorously evaluated to meet high standards of practicality, durability, and sustainability. In pursuit of these ideals, we consciously chose to forgo mixed materials in favor of 100% New Zealand Wool, ensuring the possibility of upcycling with the aim to further optimize our impact on the environment.

'I always find it so captivating to see when rugs are seamlessly integrated with other interior elements. The interplay of surfaces and patterns can be challenging at times. Yet, achieving a beautiful harmony transcends mere color—it's about combining the deeper connection between elements. This insight and a pursuit of designs with quality and longevity was the genesis of this range,' says Morten Bo Jensen, Groundwork Studio.

The collection currently features six distinct variations, each hand-tufted by skilled artisans using the highest quality New Zealand Wool yarn. Available in three rich yet elegantly understated shades: Rocky Grey, Forest Green, and Smoked Caramel.
