ADI Ceramic&Bathroom Design Award celebrates its tenth anniversary

At Cersaie 2024 in September, the competition organised by ADI in collaboration with the Bologna show will honour outstanding ceramic tile and bathroom furnishing design projects.

The ADI Ceramic&Bathroom Design Award, organised by ADI Emilia-Romagna, will be back at Cersaie 2024 in Bologna from 23 to 27 September. The competition is open to all exhibiting companies and will celebrate products that stand out for their design excellence. An expert jury will judge products displayed at the show based on criteria including innovation, technology, producibility, sustainability, durability and usability. These criteria reflect design quality standards in their broadest and most modern sense and are the same as those adopted for the ADI Design Index, a two-yearly selection of the finest Italian design products which are automatically submitted to the industry's most prestigious award, the Compasso d'Oro.

"Although the competition was first held in 2014, ADI had been closely following the evolution of the sector for a number of years before that and had organised a series of initiatives in collaboration with Confindustria Ceramica to promote outstanding products, including exhibitions and conference participations," explains Wladimiro Bendandi, who coordinates the activities of ADI Emilia-Romagna in his capacity as regional delegate.

"The ADI award for Italian ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings demonstrates that these products are design solutions in their own right and are capable of enhancing the spaces in which they are used," comments Emilio Mussini, Chairman of the Promotional Activities and Trade Fairs Commission of Confindustria Ceramica. "The ADI Booth Design award testifies to the importance of high-quality presentation and the excellence of Cersaie as the world's pre-eminent event for its sector."

The ADI Booth Design Award has been organised since 2019 with the aim of recognising the best booths installed at Cersaie and celebrating the efforts of companies to enhance their visibility among industry professionals and the general public.

The winners of the ADI Ceramic&Bathroom Design Award are selected by an expert jury of designers, trade journalists, communication professionals, researchers and art and design lecturers. The winners pass the first stage of the selection process for inclusion in the annual ADI Design Index and consequent submission to the biennial Compasso d'Oro, the most highly coveted Italian design award.

A number of ceramic products are currently on display in the exhibition organised for the 28th Compasso d'Oro award, which will run until 16 September in the ADI Design Museum in Milan. These include Attitude, a ceramic tile from Cooperativa Ceramica d'Imola which won the Compasso d'Oro award; Pura, a tile from Cotto d'Este that earned a Special Mention in the Cersaie competition in 2022; and the Blu Ponti Collection by Ceramica Francesco de Maio, which was honoured with the Compasso d'Oro lifetime achievement award for its enduring success over the decades.

Ten years since its inception, the competition promoted by ADI with Cersaie continues to serve as an invaluable tool for early identification of outstanding products in the ceramic tile and bathroom furnishing sectors. The award brings these innovations to the attention of design professionals and the general public, highlighting excellence within the industry. This year, the award ceremony for both ADI competitions will be held on 25 September in the Auditorium in the Cersaie Services Centre.
