Former Carpetright manager pleads guilty to fraud

More bad news follows for Carpetright. The flooring chain collapsed last July and now, Anhar Ali, a former manager of a Carpetright store in Oxford, UK, has pleaded guilty to fraud involving the theft of over £26,000 from the retailer.

Appearing before Oxford Magistrates Court on August 20, 2024, Ali admitted to committing fraudulent activities totalling £26,056 between November 19, 2020, and May 13, 2022. At the time, Ali served as both deputy manager and store manager of the Oxford branch.

The specific methods of Ali's fraud remain unclear, but he has confessed to charges of fraud by abuse of position and theft by employee. The case has been adjourned and will resume on September 19, 2024, when Ali is scheduled to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court.
