Antarte designs armchair for Pope Francis

Antarte designed and materialised Pope Francis' armchair for the apostolic visit to Timor-Leste from 9 to 11 September. It is a piece designed by Mário Rocha, CEO and creative director of Antarte. It expresses the institutional nobility of the Pope and respects the directives of the Vatican.

The armchair brings together artisanal production with cutting-edge technologies. It features natural fibres such as cotton and linen, woven on a hand loom, and includes the Vatican coat of arms on top of the back, made using 3D printing.

An armchair was also created for the head of state of Timor-Leste. It will be used by José Ramos-Horta during the official reception for Pope Francis.

This is the second piece Antarte has created for the Popes, following Benedict XVI's resting chair, which was used during his visit to Porto on May 14, 2014.
