Illulian presents Symi and Tatam, two rugs born from a partnership with Ferruccio Laviani, one of the most eclectic and authoritative names in Italian design. With a brilliant, curious, and attentive view of the world, his creative process has always been fuelled by inspiration, colours, and ideas. He scrutinizes the horizon of everyday life through encounters, travel, photographs, architecture, art, and unexpected details. Never the same, yet consistent in each of his products or installations, the famous designer brings out all his design identity through this collaboration.
The abstract design that is the protagonist of these rugs is a visual story that intersects, not only symbolically, lines of color. It is a pictorial gesture that transforms the concept of the sign, taking it from the manual to the digital sphere. Replacing the canvas with the iPad, which in turn becomes a tactile surface composed of warp and weft, the result is a play of solids and voids created by the superimposition of fluid and dynamic lines. Symi represents a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation, where craftsmanship meets the potential of digital technology to create a unique product.
With Tatam, Laviani revisits the simplicity of the Berber rug through contemporary decoration. The rectangular shape is defined by the height and thickness of the edges, while the childlike stroke describes the design, defining and delimiting its surface in an almost dreamlike way. Through a play of thin lines that create brilliant reflections, it seems to reproduce a three-dimensional mirror, as if immersed in a new world.
