'CMA CGM has announced the introduction of a Peak Season Surcharge'

Customers shipping goods to certain regions in Europe could experience additional costs

French ocean carrier CMA CGM has announced the introduction of a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo shipments from East Africa, South Africa, and the Indian Ocean to Europe. The surcharge will take effect on 15 September 2024 and will remain in place until further notice, says an article in Container News.

It will apply to all cargo originating from these regions and destined for various European locations, including North Europe (covering the Baltic and Scandinavia), the United Kingdom, West and East Mediterranean, Adriatic, Morocco, North Africa, and the Black Sea.

The surcharge has been set at US$400 per container and is aimed at managing the heightened demand during the peak shipping season.
