Every autumn, Graham & Brown, the UK's leading interior design brand, launches the "design & colour of the year". This year, they celebrate cultural origins and British heritage, drawing inspiration closer to home.
For 2025, the "design of the year" is Rivington Folly and the "colour of the year" is Elderton. A tribute to Graham & Brown's Lancastrian heritage, which embodies the symbiotic relationship between the natural world and man-made elements. The Rivington Terraced Gardens, known locally as the Lost Garden was the inspiration for the new colour and design.
The design studio focuses on the craft trend by creating unique pieces and reusing old techniques. Inspired by the minimalist trend, the emphasis is on valuable, timeless items. The "design of the year" is handmade, with each piece telling a story and having a warm, recognisable look that no algorithm can reproduce.
Graham & Brown "Design of the year 2025'': Rivington Folly
Welcome to Rivington Folly, the "design of the year" for 2025. This impressive architectural structure is inspired by Rivington's historic skyline and surrounded by ancient trees. The mural, with a dark tertiary hue and reddish undertones, is reminiscent of ancient arboretum stones and transforms any space. The design pairs beautifully with the colour of the year, Elderton.
The "design of the year" has a strong architectural component, with ancient columns and arches evoking an extraordinary Victorian vision. Drawing inspiration from the local area, Liverpool Castle, located in Rivington, is a replica of an original medieval castle in Merseyside from the 13th century. It has become an iconic Lancashire County landmark.
Victoria Davidson, designer at Graham & Brown took on the task of elaborating this artwork line by line. In the style of Italian archaeologist Giovanni Battista Piranesi, one of the greatest printmakers of the 18th century, she worked on this design with great precision. Fine arches create visual impact, while trees add depth and texture. Elderton is the ideal colour partner, highlighting the complexity of the line drawings and giving depth to the design. The "design of the year" Rivington Folly is available as wallpaper, customised photo wallpapers, customised curtains and blinds.
GRAHAM & BROWN "COLOUR OF THE YEAR 2025" : ELDERTON
Complementing Rivington Folly, Graham & Brown presents its "colour of the year 2025": Elderton. A perfect neutral brown shade, carefully composed to ensure a timeless design. Elderton takes its name from the humble elder tree. The elder is a traditional native shrub or tree, with some varieties having almost deep brown leaves, which inspired the Elderton shade. This timeless and charming shade is a well-balanced natural brown that never goes out of style.
Created to perfectly match and ground the "design of the year", Rivington Folly. It can be used in any room of the house. For best results, opt for colour soaking by extending the paint to the ceiling for a warm atmosphere. Or soften the room by combining with a subtle neutral shade, such as Honey Pot.
Like all Graham & Brown paints, Elderton is an eco-paint; it is water-based, odourless and ultra-low VOC, resulting in an eco-friendly product. The paint pots are fully recyclable and no animal testing is involved in Graham & Brown products.
