French retail numbers increasing, but home goods are down

In August, specialty retail stores experienced a modest increase of +1.5% compared to August 2023, following a decline of -2.5% in July 2024. This marks a slight improvement in performance as summer ended.

Despite this average positive result, sector-specific trends vary. Some sectors saw significant growth, while home goods experienced declines of -0.4%.

Foot traffic in France's retail locations was significantly negative in July at -5.9%, but improved to +0.8% in August compared to 2023. However, foot traffic remained negative in Île-de-France and Normandy, while other regions saw improvements. In Paris, foot traffic was down by -2.2%.
