July 2024 saw increase in UK furniture imports to £717 million

In July 2024, UK furniture imports increased significantly, while exports saw a slight decline. According to data analysed by Big Furniture Group, imports totalled £717.2 million, a rise of 11.4% compared to £645.3 million in July 2023.

Imports from EU countries grew modestly by 1.4% to £342.8 million, with Italy and Poland contributing significantly, rising by 9.4% and 15.8%, respectively. German imports also saw a small increase of 3.4%.

Non-EU imports surged by 21.7% to £374.3 million, with Chinese imports jumping 34.9% to £270.9 million. However, imports from Vietnam decreased by 5%, and those from the USA and Turkey fell by 5% and 19%, respectively. Notable increases came from Morocco, with a 58% rise, and India, up by 18.9%.

UK furniture exports dropped by 0.6% to £175.4 million. Exports to EU countries rose by 1.7%, driven by higher sales to the Netherlands and France, though exports to Germany and Ireland decreased. Non-EU exports declined by 2.6%, with a significant 54% drop in exports to China.
