Flood crisis impacts Polish forests and companies

Several forests and companies in Poland were impacted by the 'flooding crisis' in Central Europe. The area is grappling with severe flooding following unprecedented rainfall across Poland, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Rivers have overflowed, inundating vast areas and causing significant disruption.

The State Forests of Poland issued an update on the flood crisis in the southern regions of the country. The update provided by the State Forests of Poland specifically highlights how the floods are affecting the Kłodzko Valley's forest districts, including Lądek Zdrój, Międzylesie, and Bystrzyca Dolna. Several towns, such as Bardo and Stronie, have been cut off due to rising water levels.

A crisis team, including officials from the Ministry of Climate and Environment, is working to manage the situation. Local foresters, firefighters, and other services are actively helping to clear watercourses and protect residents and property. The flood has caused severe disruptions, with many roads in mountainous areas now inaccessible, and some forester's lodges evacuated.

The forests in Lower Silesia are absorbing excess water, but reservoirs and polders, such as those in the Henryków Forest District, are nearly full. The Krynka and Oława rivers have overflowed, increasing the risk of damage. The situation worsens due to strong winds, which are toppling trees and further obstructing roads.

The well-known company Schattdecor's Polish plant was also significantly impacted by the flooding in southern Poland during the weekend of September 14-15, 2024. Heavy rains caused rivers to overflow, damaging buildings and infrastructure across the region, including Schattdecor's facility, which produces finish foils and lacquers.

Despite protective measures, water entered the production hall, warehouse, and offices. Fortunately, no employees were harmed. In response, Schattdecor has activated a crisis team to assess the damage, purchase necessary materials, and organize onsite support. Cleanup efforts began on September 16, with teams evaluating the extent of the damage.

The company announced that no shipments or production will take place in the coming days, and accessing Głuchołazy itself remains difficult due to damaged roads.
