'The Dutch trade show Destination Design was held at the same location, in a new, surprising way'

From 15 to 17 September, the Destination Design event took place at Het Klokgebouw in Eindhoven (The Netherlands). According to initiators Hans Filippini and Marieke van den Berg, it was an inspiring voyage of discovery with enriching encounters. More than 50 Dutch and international design brands, chosen for their innovation and creativity, were part of the event. The theme for this edition was 'Exploring New Horizons'.

The interior and appearance of the four exhibition halls was designed by Studio La Bolleur. With this edition's design, they embraced the industrial beauty of Het Klokgebouw, which has a rich history. The halls were colourfully arranged, with coloured partitions between the exhibitors. ''It's the second time that Destination Design was organised at this location. So you still want to inspire the visitors and come up with surprising new aspects. This is why we have chosen new art directors who have done the event in a new way,'' says Hans Filippini.

Both visitors and exhibitors reacted enthusiastically to the event. ''It feels 'cosy' and it is clearly laid out. We're all together and everyone has the same size in terms of stand, so there is no competition in that area. It was also nice that several food and beverage spaces had been created in each hall.''

Not a writing fair
''In terms of trade, it was not a writing fair,'' the exhibitors said. ''It was mainly about networking, gaining inspiration and showing the new or just existing models in a slightly different way. If there were any, because many of the companies had already presented the collections in Milan, Cologne or elsewhere. What stood out were the classics shown by the design brands in new, contemporary ways. Also, of course, the bright colours that recurred in both the fabrics, rugs, but also the exhibition walls. The colour bordeaux/dark red was spotted the most, and is, as in the fashion world, the trend colour for the coming winter. Bouclé fabrics are also not yet out of the question and, according to many exhibitors, still very much in demand among consumers. Finally, aluminium in, for example, table frames and chair legs is making a comeback.''

Sunday was a quiet day, partly due to the warm weather in the Netherlands. Monday was very busy, according to everyone, and Tuesday was also very busy, especially in the morning.
