'Multiple charges to other retailers'

Estimates put extent of collapsed Carpetright's at £377 million

Carpetright, the flooring company that collapsed recently, owed nearly £3.5 million in outstanding rent and charges to other retailers, with DFS topping the list. Yesterday we revealed the amount owed to individual shoppers, but according to a recent statement of affairs multiple retailers were also owed money. DFS for example was owed £1.56 million for rent at its Newcraighall, Lothian location.

Other major creditors include Wickes, owed £896,976, and B&M, with £384,626. Furniture Village and Bensons for Beds were owed £323,668 and £167,604, respectively, while Lidl, Asda, Hafren, Barkers, B&Q, and Marks & Spencer were also among the creditors.

In total, at least 11 retailers were affected by Carpetright's collapse. However, the chain's debts extended beyond retailers. Carpetright owed £148.26 million to a range of entities, including property companies, pension funds, local authorities, charitable foundations, and individuals.

The company was also in debt to almost 25,000 individuals, including consumers, employees, and fitters, with 1,669 companies, 1,569 employees, and 298 landlords listed as creditors.

Overall, Carpetright's total estimated debts reached £377.1 million.
