Sheep's wool undergoes many transformation processes to become the material for rugs, often losing its true identity. Its original volume, texture, and color are converted into individual strands that facilitate the design or weave. For this reason, Mayice has developed a design with the new Lines collection that showcases wool in all its essence and splendor.
Lines is a collection of rugs made with long, undyed natural wool yarns. The long-pile surfaces, featuring intentional changes in direction executed on a handloom, provide a sensory experience reminiscent of running your hand over the back of a sheep.
'Touch is the first sense to develop in human life, so we felt it was important to link it to a rug. We like to work with noble and authentic materials because it always seems honest to us and has a closer link to nature itself,' say Imanol Calderón and Marta Yebra from Mayice.
This is the first collection Mayice has designed for Gan. Inspired by the importance of touch and the authenticity of natural materials, Lines pays tribute to the original attributes of unprocessed wool. The undyed strands are carefully sorted to achieve four colors in the collection: white, brown, grey, and charcoal.
