Freistil Rolf Benz presents the bench system ECHT. The latest development was created with an emphasis on longevity and recyclability. What is sustainably upholstered furniture and what will it look like in the future? With this question in mind, ECHT was designed. The sofa is a completely new approach in terms of construction, choice of materials and service. Every aspect has been critically examined: from the cover to the cushioning material, from the modularity of the furniture to the sorting of waste by material type, and from shorter transport routes to the reorder service.
ECHT
The road to recyclability is a continuous process. Fully in line with this development, freistil Rolf Benz implements its vision for high-quality upholstered furniture. The key concepts are "living, repairing, recycling" and the entire design of the freistil ECHT sofa is geared to this. The aim here is to achieve the longest possible product life cycle due to versatility, a long product life due to repairability and industrial recyclability by separating waste by material type.
Life
Whether you move house, change housemates or adapt to a new lifestyle, ECHT ensures that your sofa lasts a long time. The modular sofa system consists of a total of two seat elements and one narrow and one wider side element. Three seat elements, two wide back elements and one narrow back element provide 11 different combinations. The elements can be combined with a specially designed leg construction. Of course, 'live' also stands for remarkably high-quality materials, unique comfort and timeless design.
Repair
All components of the freistil ECHT sofa, from the wooden frame to the upholstery, are delivered as a flat package. The sofa can be easily assembled by the customer himself, or as a service through the dealer, using standard tools. The covers can be removed, washed and rearranged as needed to adapt the sofa to traces of daily life, minor disasters or style changes. In addition, all parts of the sofa are available through a reorder service for at least ten years.
Recycle
People who want to live sustainably also appreciate that all parts of the ECHT sofa can be sorted by material. The covers and fleece materials are made of recyclable materials or are themselves recycled.
The foam parts of the freistil ECHT sofa consist of 100% polyurethane. They are produced in accordance with BASF's biomass balance approach. This means that renewable raw materials from biomass are used in production. By using the foam, freistil Rolf Benz is helping to reduce dependence on fossil resources.
Producers of the foam are currently investigating how the material can be recycled for use in an equivalent product, instead of being downcycled into a lower-value material, as is currently the case.
