Matter Made introduces the Legato Lighting System by Luca Nichetto

'The name Legato derives from an Italian musical reference'

Matter Made, the New York-based contemporary lighting manufacturer, is pleased to announce the Legato lighting system, a collaborative collection with Venice-based designer Luca Nichetto. Suited for a range of indoor settings from residential to retail and hospitality interiors, the system is highly customisable, from single-strand pendants to chandeliers, adapting to the unique frequency of each space.

The name Legato derives from an Italian musical reference indicating a smooth and unbroken connection of notes. Similarly, like the musical note, a lamp in the shape of a cone is anchored on a rigid aluminium structure, where each individual module is 'tied together' while allowing for different combinations. The double directionality of the light sources creates a play of reflections and shadows between the cones, emphasizing the volumes. The modularity of the system allows for an extensive offering, expanded virtually without end to create a dynamic installation or an architectural wall of bi-directional light.

'Think of a musical score where every note connects smoothly, creating a continuous melody. The Legato lighting system is like this, with cones organized like notes to make different compositions,' says Luca Nichetto

'We originally debuted the design concept during Milan Design Week in 2018. While we initially sought to scale production of Luca's collection, in time we realized that would come with some sacrifices we weren't willing to make. In fact, the intricate nature of the design presented an exciting opportunity to keep our production in-house. This strategic shift allowed us to ensure the lifelong quality and craftsmanship that Matter Made is known for. We are thrilled that we are now able to offer this collection to our clientele,' says Jamie Gray, founder of Matter Made

The Legato will be offered in Textured Graphite and can be customized in a variety of formations.
