Interview with the biggest Turkish upholstery fabric producer:

'Rising costs challenge Turkish manufacturers as Chinese textiles impact the market'

Weavers Textile is an investment in the textile sector of Erciyes Anadolu Holding which ranks among the largest group of companies in Turkey with approximately 15,000 employees operating in many fields such as furniture, energy, aviation and transportation and is also among the largest producers of the world with its integrated facility in the product group of upholstery and drapery fabric.

Weavers, standing out with its innovative aspect as well as its product categories such as velvet, outdoor, chenille carpet, coverlet and bedspreads, knitted fabrics and sustainable fabric, introduced different products to millions of consumers in more than 100 countries by means of its large production capacity and wide product range. Weavers, integrating weaving, knitting, bare finish, dyeing and final control in it's own facility, is among the rare companies in this field.

Weavers Textile has a diverse product range including velvet, chenille carpet, and sustainable fabrics. How does your company approach innovation and stay ahead in the textile industry to offer such a wide variety of products?
'Our company has dedicated R&D and Product Development teams, and each year we introduce innovative products at Heimtextil, one of the most important trade fairs held in January in Frankfurt, Germany. Our diverse range of fabrics includes velvet, outdoor fabrics, indoor fabrics, circular knitted fabrics, and bedspreads.

We continuously strive to develop new types of fabrics and innovations that make life easier. Currently, our focus is on sustainable fabrics and eco-friendly treatments. One of our key offerings is the sustainable easy-clean technology called C-Zero Eco Plus, and we also offer GreenFR, a halogen-free fabric treatment.

In addition to sustainable fabrics, we are committed to sustainable production. We are Oekotex Step certified and are investing in solar energy. Our goal is to become a carbon-neutral company in the coming years.'

With operations reaching over 100 countries, what are the key factors that have contributed to your global success, and how do you manage to cater to the different tastes and requirements of such a diverse market?
'One of the key factors in reaching over 100 countries is our ability to develop customised fabrics and colours tailored to the specific needs of each market we serve. Our flexibility and speed in creating these custom solutions have been critical to our success. This capability allows us to offer a diverse range of fabrics, resulting in an extensive product portfolio.'

Your integrated facility covers weaving, knitting, dyeing, and final control. Can you elaborate on how this vertical integration benefits your production process and product quality compared to companies that outsource these stages?
'By managing the entire production process under one roof, we ensure stable production and consistent, high-quality results. At every stage of production, we have a quality control system in place to verify that all customer requirements are met.'

Sustainability is increasingly becoming a critical focus in the textile industry. How is Weavers Textile addressing sustainability in its product lines and production processes, and what future goals do you have in this area?
'Sustainability is a key focus at Weavers. We actively calculate our carbon footprint and share this data with our customers. Soon, we will release our sustainability report, which will highlight our commitment to sustainable practices. At Weavers, sustainability is at the core of our business, with 45% of our production dedicated to sustainable fabrics. Our range includes recycled fabrics, biopolyester, and natural vegan fabrics, alongside innovative eco-friendly treatments like C-Zero Eco Plus and GreenFR.'

Given your experience and large production capacity, what are some of the biggest challenges you face in maintaining quality and innovation, and how do you overcome them to meet the needs of your global customer base?
'Our large production capacity and flexibility allow us to collaborate with major global companies and retail chains. We adhere to international standards to meet our customers' diverse requirements. As a result, we serve many top-tier clients worldwide, with several ranking among the top three in their respective regions.'

What is the effect on textile actually from China?
'After the pandemic, Chinese producers have significantly impacted global markets, especially in Europe. The pricing pressure has made it challenging for Turkish manufacturers to compete. During the pandemic, there was a sharp rise in demand for home textiles, and sourcing from the Far East was more difficult than it is now. Currently, transportation and fabric costs have decreased considerably.'

Do you as company have any plans to expand or any plans in the future?
'At Weavers, we participate in numerous textile fairs around the world and continuously explore new sales channels. Currently, we have a showroom operating in High Point, NC, to better serve our clients and showcase our products.'
