Online retailer Galaxus has laid the foundation stone for a new logistics centre in Neuenburg am Rhein, marking the company's expansion into the region. The first warehouse is expected to be completed by summer 2025, with the creation of 1,000 jobs aimed at fostering an honest online shopping experience.
Jens Fondy-Langela, mayor of Neuenburg, noted that this is the largest commercial development in the area since the 1960s. The new facility will encompass approximately 90,000 square meters of warehouse space, similar in size to Galaxus's largest logistics center in Wohlen, Switzerland.
Michael Stolle, COO of Digitec Galaxus, explains the necessity of the move: 'As we're growing rapidly in both Switzerland and Germany, we need more space. Our projects in Rafz and Utzenstorf will take longer, making Neuenburg our top priority.' He emphasized that Neuenburg's location allows for quick delivery to Switzerland and other parts of Germany and France.
Recruitment efforts have begun, with a significant hiring wave anticipated for summer 2025. Galaxus will look for staff not only in Neuenburg but also in nearby Mulhouse, France, which is just a 20-minute drive away.
Additionally, a building permit for a second warehouse has been granted, pending species protection considerations. Galaxus continues to invest in its European operations, with plans for future growth supported by the Migros Group, its majority owner. The company also recently relocated its German headquarters to a larger office in Hamburg.
