The prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design has launched a new competition cycle, introducing a meta-category called 'Sustainable Design'. This category aims to recognise and promote sustainable and responsible product design across various sectors. It will feature products that are durable, adaptable, energy-efficient, or made from renewable and recyclable materials.
The Illan light, made from sustainably sourced wood, features easily detachable components and a foldable design for reduced packaging during shipping.
Designers and companies worldwide can submit their entries from September 16, 2024, to January 31, 2025. Judging will occur in March 2025, where more than 40 international design experts will gather in the Ruhr area to assess the submitted products in person.
In the 'Sustainable Design' metacategory, you can enter products from all sectors that will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Durable, adaptable products that grow with their users
- Material- and energy-efficient construction
- Renewable and recyclable raw materials
- Repairable and recyclable products
