ARCHITECT@WORK Kortrijk announces new theme and exhibition layout

The event ARCHITECT@WORK Kortrijk, from May 15-16 2025, at Kortrijk Xpo, has chosen the theme "Thoughtful Tomorrow" for its 12th edition in its hometown. "Thoughtful Tomorrow"— illustrates how the focus must be on thoughtful building today and tomorrow. At the same time, the organisation has announced an update to the exhibition layout, featuring revised scenography and a new setup, while maintaining the familiar look and feel.

As a theme, "Thoughtful Tomorrow" encourages reflection on how many proposed innovations—along with social, cultural, and ecological considerations—can help create a future where architecture is smarter, more resilient, and more responsive. It's about thoughtfully integrating technology and deeply understanding the needs of our planet, creating a future where the built environment truly improves lives.

Thoughtful construction explores the future of architecture in numerous ways. It recognises a wide range of emerging trends and advanced developments that are transforming the industry. This includes the use of AI in architecture, flexible design, the implementation of new technologies and robotics in construction, smart materials, adaptive reuse (or not), and the relationship between people and cities, among other aspects.

New scenography and layout
In addition to setting the new theme, the organisation also critically reviewed the event's presentation. Although the concept had clearly stood the test of time, it was evident that the moment had come for a fresh and different experience.

Creative Fo(u)r, a collaboration of independent interior architects with their own studios and the creators of the booth concept, seized the opportunity to introduce several new elements, bringing fresh energy to the exhibition floor. The collective redesigned the booth layout for ARCHITECT@WORK Kortrijk, opting for a 31-degree arrangement, breaking away from the traditional square and rectangular setups. This change offers visitors a diagonal and extended perspective, with expansive views that are missing in the current long, curtain-draped hallways. Another notable change is in the seminar spaces, which will no longer be enclosed but placed in a circular arrangement in Hall 5, creating maximum visibility and dynamism. Additionally, the materials exhibition will now be hosted in two circular spaces.

'Of course, the updated concept doesn't throw out the baby with the bathwater,' says Exhibition Manager Anne-Laure Van de Ginste. 'Our concept is built around our well-known black-and-white look and feel, which remains intact, as does the presence of side events that add substance to the theme and visitor experience. We will continue collaborating with artists, present exhibitions, create space for partners and the press, and at the same time, introduce new elements to ARCHITECT@WORK. As always, you can expect another strong edition that will create meaningful connections between our exhibitors and their visitors.'
