Belgian retail chain closes 15 showrooms and discontinues kitchen business

A Belgian retail chain is closing 15 showrooms and discontinuing its kitchen business, resulting in the loss of 41 jobs. The company aims to refocus on its core offering of household appliances, citing the kitchen sector's complex and competitive nature, along with rising operational costs, as reasons for the shift.

CEO of the company in question, Krëfel, Jonathan De Nys described the decision as "coherent and responsible," emphasising that phasing out the kitchen division will enable Krëfel to pursue a more resilient long-term strategy. Despite the closure, customers with existing kitchen purchases will still receive after-sales support, as Krëfel's teams will continue to provide service in the medium to long term.

While all affected employees will lose their positions, the company plans to assist them on a "case-by-case basis," including the option to apply for other available roles within the organisation.
