An auction recently took place at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas, where several items from the popular Game of Thrones series went under the hammer. One of the most striking pieces was a replica of the Iron Throne, the symbol of power and rule over the seven kingdoms of Westeros. This chair brought a whopping $1.49 million (about €1.36 million).

Besides the Iron Throne, numerous other items were also auctioned off that fans of the series could not resist. Among these items were outfits of major characters. A costume worn by Dutch actress Carice van Houten was also deeply prized. The ruby red outfit of her character Melisandre changed hands for $36,250.
The Iron Throne from Game of Thrones is seat made from the forged swords of defeated enemies. It is large and rugged, with sharp, protruding points and an irregular, unpolished appearance. The chair is designed to exude a sense of power and fear, with a high backrest resembling a thorny crown. The whole thing has a stark, almost mythical look, reflecting the brutality and violence of the struggle for power in Westeros (continents in the fantasy world).
