Freshness, sensations, circularity... Designer Rafa Ortega presents an innovative line of biophilic tiles in which, through a process of creative experimentation, preserved lichen,100% natural and maintenance-free, is artisanally fused onto panels made of 100% upcycled residual cellulose fibres.
These contemporary craft pieces offer an evolution of decorative wall coverings that can be touched and felt, providing not only sustainability but also a direct connection to nature and the essence of the landscape, transforming walls into windows with views of well-being.
Inspired by a contemplative vision of the natural surroundings and the value of its cultural richness, Albufera evokes the silence from atop a mountain, the sun's reflections on the earth, the chirping of birds flying at dawn, the scent of the sea breeze, the taste of a good family meal, or an unhurried walk...
With two plant-based tile designs, the aesthetic versatility of this collection allows it to adapt to any space, forming sensory panels or infinite artistic compositions that relax, captivate... and also invite introspection, encouraging us to reflect on the need for a collective mindset that helps us reconnect with, preserve, and even seek to improve our landscapes.
Each Albufera piece is crafted by hand, with preserved vegetation in the form of lichens delicately resting on milled and engraved HONEXT® boards. This material is obtained through an innovative, patented biotechnological manufacturing process that transforms residual cellulose fibres and other industrial byproducts into 100% recyclable, non-toxic panels, with certifications like Cradle to Cradle Gold and Material Health Gold (non-toxic).

Designer
Rafa Ortega is one of the leading figures in Valencian design. Together with Cristina Gutiérrez, he has been leading gutierrezyortega, the studio they co-direct, for nearly 30 years. They bring emotion and creativity to the development of products for offices, communities, restaurants, and homes. Their innovative solutions are carefully guided through every stage of a new project, from identifying a need to launching the final product and ensuring its effectiveness. Rafa Ortega has previously designed other collections for Greenarea, such as OTOgreen and ILLA, innovative lines of planters and sound-absorbing vegetal panels made from recycled PET materials. These acoustic, biophilic, and sustainable solutions aim to enhance indoor well-being while caring for the environment.
