'Container shipping companies want to pull the emergency brake on rate decline'

The decline in container liner shipping rates, which started in the middle of this summer, continues. The steepest price drops are visible on the route between Asia and Northern Europe, but rates also continue to fall on other major international shipping routes. Several container shipping companies think enough has been enough and are trying to stop this trend in November by implementing general rate increases. This was reported by Nieuwsblad Transport (NT).

Last week, freight rates fell on several key trade routes. For instance, rates from Rotterdam to Shanghai fell by 8% or $47, bringing the new price to $543 per 40ft container. Similarly, rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam fell by 6% or $224, resulting in a new price of $3,591 per FEU (Forty-foot Equivalent Unit).
