Danish furniture company wins lawsuit against copycat but is still unsatisfied

A Danish furniture company has won a lawsuit against Liewood for copying their Nido chair, but CEO Anders Stampe expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome. He believes the company, Karup Design, is in a weak position for any future legal actions, stating that despite the clear infringement, pursuing the case turned out to be more costly and time-consuming than the awarded compensation.

Karup Design recently discovered that Liewood was selling a chair nearly identical to their Nido chair, branded as Rudi and offered at a significantly lower price. This led to the lawsuit, which concluded on September 11, ruling in favour of Karup Design.

Karup Design was awarded 125,000 kr. in damages and secured a ban on Liewood's production of the chair, but they had initially sought 400,000 kr. to cover legal costs and losses in revenue. Stampe voiced concerns about the challenges facing the company in future legal pursuits, noting that even a clear-cut case resulted in expenses and time that outweighed the compensation awarded.
