Jysk aims to get closer to customers by enhancing its logistics setup with a new dark store concept. The first two dark stores will open in Ireland and Morocco.
Jysk's strategy, "Seamless and Closer to Customer," supports this initiative, enabling the company to become more competitive and offer faster, more reliable deliveries in selected countries. The first dark store will open in Dublin, Ireland, in November, with a second planned for Casablanca, Morocco, in spring 2025.
'When we are present in a country and want to shorten delivery times, a dark store is a great option. This helps us attract new customers and create a more seamless experience,' says Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President of Logistics.
Smaller than a distribution centre
A dark store is a smaller warehouse focused solely on online shopping, not a customer-facing retail space. It will offer the full assortment of products available in JYSK stores, along with additional items, all ready for direct delivery to customers' homes. These small warehouses will be replenished from one of JYSK's ten large distribution centres strategically located across Europe.
First dark store in Ireland
The first dark store, approximately 8,000 square meters, will significantly reduce lead times for online deliveries in Ireland. Previously, deliveries were made directly from the distribution center in Denmark. From November, online customers in Ireland will receive their orders from the dark store.
'This will bring us even closer to customers, which is crucial for our growth in Ireland and will also create new jobs,' says Roni Tuominen, Country Director for JYSK United Kingdom & Ireland.
A similar dark store is planned for Morocco, set to open alongside JYSK's first stores in spring 2025, reducing delivery times from around 16 days to just 2 days.
