Finn Juhl's Pelican Chair makes its return

With the arrival of autumn, Finn Juhl's iconic Pelican Chair makes its return, now upholstered in sheepskin from the Swedish island of Gotland. The sheepskin adds a distinctive and unique expression, as its natural warmth emphasizes the organic shape of the sculptural Pelican Chair.

Gotland Pelican Chair
The island of Gotland lies in the Baltic Sea, 200 kilometres from Stockholm. With its expansive pine forests and stunning coastlines, the island offers a unique natural environment. It is home to the Gotland Pelt Sheep, a highly active and social breed that has adapted to the harsh Scandinavian climate. In addition to being hardy and robust, the Gotland Sheep are especially known for one distinctive feature—their significant grey, curly coat.

Ranging from dense, almost frizzy, to large, shiny, soft curls, each sheep's coat is unique, and no two hides are alike. Naturally, the coat colour can vary from light grey to dark grey, with shades of white and black. The hides are all-natural, with no added colouring in the process.

When the Pelican Chair is upholstered in Gotland sheepskin, the upholstery's character is entirely defined by nature. As a result, each Pelican Chair has an original, individual expression that emphasizes the chair's distinctive and animalistic form.

As always, the Pelican Chair is hand-upholstered in the traditional way, a craft mastered by only a select few of Denmark's most skilled artisans.
