Regal Fabrics' Director of Marketing, Andy Kahan:

'The US market is slowly rebounding as inflation rates decrease and consumer confidence grows'

As part of its fall 2024 collection fabrics, the US-based Regal Fabrics will be debuting five trend groups at Interwoven this November 19-21 in High Point, NC. Having had a firm finger on the pulse of the home furnishings and upholstery industry for the past 37 years, Regal Fabrics designs, develops, and stocks beautiful fabrics in the US produced with partner mills worldwide. We talk to Andy Kahan, Regal Fabric's Director of Marketing, about the brand's new pieces and future plans.

Interwoven
Catering to customer favourites, Regal Fabrics has deepened colour lines on best-selling patterns including chenille, bouclé, velvet, woven, and washed & washable constructions. As part of its fall 2024 collection fabrics, Regal will also be debuting five trend groups at Interwoven. The trends of this year:

Country House: Inspired by English country cottage décor, this group features traditional designs in handsome, modernised colourations. Vintage florals, elegant damasks, and intricate embroideries and textures are layered in subdued maximalism.
Globe Trekking: Intertwining heritage craft with contemporary styling, complex ikat patterns and primitive motifs evoke a sense of global exploration. The collection features nubby boucle and plush chenille textures, adding layered tactile luxury. Blending traditional artistry and modern colouring creates a captivating grouping that inspires and celebrates diverse cultures and aesthetics.
Modern Casual: Featuring playful geometrics, curved lines and vibrant 70s-inspired colours for a West Coast contemporary vibe. Chunky textures combined with fresh colours create a nostalgic atmosphere that resonates with laid-back sophistication.
Coast Home: Blending casual transitional charm with tailored sophistication. With a focus on inviting textures and clean-lined plaids, checks and stripes, these fabrics evoke an easy living coastal vibe. The look is both relaxed and structured with on trend colours that feel strong yet light, grounded by creamy whites.
Classics: Marrying traditional Asian design elements with rich textures and updated colouring lends timeless sophistication. These elegantly refined fabrics reflect the harmonious balance of modern living and traditional artistry.

Design Director Sarah Surace reflects on the collection: 'It's so refreshing to see colour trending again! Our Fall 24 collection is a feast of warm neutrals, moody blues, olive-infused greens, caramel browns and rich spice tones. Consumer preference continues to trend toward more complexity in design and colour - that's reflected in our impactful layered, colour-curated collection, all at the intersection of great value and beautiful design.'

Market challenges
When asked about the market conditions in the US right now, Andy says: 'The US market is slowly rebounding as inflation rates decrease and consumer confidence grows. The home furnishings industry is always closely tied to the economy, the housing market, and other factors, so we monitor these macroeconomic indicators as signs of what's to come. As we can't always control external factors, it is crucial to have the right product for the market at the right value. Our focus is on meeting our customers' needs by developing beautiful fabrics available at great prices, backed by the best possible service.'

International collaboration
'We are pushing to meet more wholesale customers in Europe and the international market, though most of our sales are here in North America,' Andy explains. That's why Regal Fabrics will be at Heimtextil in Frankfurt this January as well to meet with interested international customers. 'Our design team has been attending Heimtextil for years, taking advantage of having many of our major vendors and mill partners from various countries assembled in one place during that week. This gives us the opportunity to start product development directly with the mills, observe new trends, strengthen relationships, and perhaps discover something completely new and exciting,' he says.

'2025 will mark only the second year that we'll have our own product in Germany to introduce interested international buyers to the Regal brand, including bestsellers and our fantastic new collection.'
