Seniorcare introduces Cala and Wave at Orgatec 2024

'Few companies prioritise design for the elderly'

Seniorcare, a company specialising in the design and manufacture of furniture for care and nursing homes, is presenting two new collections at the Orgatec fair in Cologne, Germany, from October 22 to 25: "Cala" by Alegre Design and "Wave" by Odosdesign.

In a sector where few companies prioritise design for the elderly, Seniorcare is positioning itself as a pioneer with collections aimed at providing comfort and functionality in elderly care facilities.

At its stand, designed by Romero & Vallejo (P068 Hall 10.2), the Alicante-based brand showcases the full range of the "Cala" line, which includes various armchair options—fixed, reclining, and transport models—with different backrest choices: high, low, and wingback. An ottoman is also available. Alegre Design's "Cala" collection conveys serenity, with the wingback version reminiscent of calla lily petals. Crafted from premium beech wood, the seat and backrest feature high-density foam. The transport version includes a convertible leg rest with an extendable footrest, enhancing comfort during transfers.

Marcelo Alegre, CEO of Alegre Design, explains: 'In creating Cala, we aimed to combine beauty, durability, and functionality—qualities often overlooked in furniture for seniors. With new spaces dedicated to their care, there was a need for design that maintained the functional and ergonomic standards of residential furniture but with refined aesthetics. The armchair meets all technical demands, offering advanced design, high ergonomics, and visual appeal.'

"Wave," designed by Odosdesign, features various chair and armchair models with rounded legs, paired with tables ranging from 90 to 180 cm. These pieces are ideal for dining areas, community rooms, and multipurpose spaces for seniors or individuals with reduced mobility. Ana Segovia, designer at Odosdesign, emphasises the comfort of the "Wave" armchair, which boasts a smooth, wavy silhouette and no sharp edges. The backrest includes a built-in wooden handle for easy movement in geriatric settings.

The armchairs, available in wood or upholstered finishes, are lightweight and highly versatile. Other new products at the fair include benches that complement the Unna collection by Yonoh Design Studio, built from beech wood with rounded edges for enhanced ergonomics and safety.

Vicenta Vicedo, CEO of Seniorcare, states: 'With these collections, we add design value to the quality we've delivered for decades. Older adults deserve exceptional furniture with the best quality and design. Our commitment to their well-being, combined with collaborations with renowned designers, aims to enhance comfort for residents and caregivers in elderly care facilities.'

The Seniorcare stand is designed to break away from the sterile aesthetics of traditional elderly care facilities. Mariano Vallejo from Romero & Vallejo studio explains that adults over 65 have social, aesthetic, and cultural needs that must be met. The stand's design creates pleasant, welcoming spaces that enhance both design and comfort.
