The search for inspiring and innovative designs began this summer, and by autumn Bolia had received more than 1,000 entries from hopeful designers from around the world. An expert jury has since chosen the winner of the Jury Award, while the public has decided the winner of the Audience Award.
One bummer on the award ceremony is that this year not a single design met the high standards set for the Circularity Award. "At Bolia, we believe that proven circularity is essential for the future. We remain committed to promoting designs that align with our vision of responsible design and our passion for sustainability," indicates the company.
The winners are:
Morsa Chair - Winner of the Audience Award
Designed by Alessa Grotz, Germany
The Morsa Chair is a lounge chair that brings together comfort, sustainability and style in a timeless design. The oak base, finished with a satin wood oil, contrasts beautifully with the light seat and plywood backrest. The three parts of the chair are fastened together with visible M6 flathead screws, ensuring that the chair is easy to disassemble and repair.
Patchwork Trays - Winner of the Jury Award
Designed by Gini Moynier, Switzerland
Patchwork is a collection of trays inspired by Bojagi, a traditional Korean fabric patchwork technique. The collection combines different types of wood with a modern, graphic design. Using natural and sustainable wood, the trays reflect traditional patterns while bringing together Korean textile heritage with Swiss craftsmanship. This collection reinterprets traditional techniques in a world with scarce resources.
The next edition of the Bolia Design Awards will take place in autumn 2025.
