Danish retailer recalls Italian-made chairs and sofas in the UK due to fire safety concerns

A Danish retailer has issued a recall for several Italian-made lounge chairs and sofas from its Rico and Buur upholstery ranges sold in the U.K. The recall by the company, Ferm Living, affects high-end furniture items, priced over £2,000, due to fire safety concerns.

The velvet fabric used in these products, manufactured in Italy, fails to meet the U.K. standard BS5852 for fire resistance, as per the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. The U.K.'s Office for Product Safety and Standards warns that the fabric could ignite and sustain flames if exposed to a naked flame.

According to the official report: 'The product does not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. The product has been recalled from end users. Affected customers are being contacted by Ferm Living to inform them of the safety risk, and provide further details on the replacement of the product or the issuing of a credit note.'

Ferm Living, which operates in eight markets and generated £41 million in revenue last year, has started contacting U.K.-based customers to recall the affected items. The recall applies to products sold both through Ferm Living's own channels and via third-party retailers.
