In the northern Italian town of Montebelluna, an elderly lady was shocked when her cleaner accidentally threw away an old mattress in which jewellery and cash were hidden. According to local newspaper Tribuna di Treviso, the incident happened when the cleaning lady took the worn-out mattress, which was in the woman's garage, to the municipal dump.
The mattress contained valuable property amounting to about 50,000 euros. When the owner discovered a few hours later that the mattress was missing, her daughter immediately called the police. The latter launched a large-scale search at the dump site. After about an hour, the mattress was recovered, including all the jewellery and cash, which was then returned to the elderly woman.
