Amazon to launch discount store featuring $20 sofas and $9 bedding

Amazon is set to launch a new discount marketplace aimed at competing with popular budget retailers like Temu and Shein. According to a report by The Information, this new venture will feature an extensive range of products, with price caps established for various categories. For instance, bedding will be capped at $9, and sofas at $20. This pricing strategy is a departure from Amazon's traditional marketplace model, which does not impose such limits.

The products will be shipped directly from a fulfilment centre in Guangdong, China, with an estimated delivery timeline of nine to eleven days.

By establishing price limits on certain items, Amazon aims to attract budget-conscious shoppers looking for great deals. In similar cases with other e-commerce giants, offering ultra-low-priced goods directly from China often has downsides, frequently involving exploitative labour practices and resulting in lower-quality, less durable products.
