The 2024 Quote 500 has a record number of 52 billionaires, three of whom made their fortunes in the interior and home furnishing industry by selling window decorations, fragrance sticks and kitchens. The top 500 also includes another 17 millionaires working in our industry. Interestingly, among the 20 entrepreneurs, there is not one woman.
In 2024, the total assets of the 500 richest Dutch people reaches almost €253 billion, an increase of almost 5% compared to the previous year. This growth contrasts sharply with the modest growth of the Dutch economy, which grew by only 0.1% in 2023. The 2024 Quote 500 not only highlights the wealth of top Dutch entrepreneurs but also shows a record high threshold for inclusion in the list, now set at €130 million.
The list contains mostly 'self-made' entrepreneurs, except for a few notable figures such as Max Verstappen, who made his fortune in paid employment. Despite the presence of heirs such as Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken in first place, they are a minority in the list.
From the interior and home furnishing sector, there are 20 entrepreneurs on the list, namely:
Ralph Sonnenberg, the esteemed leader of Luxaflex, maintains a distinguished second place with a remarkable fortune of €7 billion, reflecting a 12.9% increase. It appears that Ralph's decision to delist Hunter Douglas has paid off handsomely.
In twentieth place, we find Raymond Cloosterman of Rituals, who seems to open stores faster than the average Dutch person can drink their morning coffee. Rising from position 33 to 20, with a fortune of €2 billion—a 33.3% increase—Raymond is paving the way to success.
Ben Mandemakers, the kitchen king, took a small step back from 24 to 28, but with a 1.9 billion and 5.6% growth. On the other hand Wouter Bakker and Gerjan den Hartog of VidaXL, have made a giant leap from position 443 to 103, with assets of 495 million.
Jos van Tol of Kaemingk, which specialises in Christmas decorations, is in 149th place with assets of 380 million. It seems Christmas is year-round in the Van Tol household.
Condor's Hoekman brothers Jan and Gerrit are in position 195 with assets of 310 million. Then come Henk and Mark van Cranenbroek, the garden furniture titans, with position 206 and assets of 295 million.
Philip Sluiter, the kitchen appliances guru, remains steady at position 226 with assets of 275 million. Next are Rob, Mark and Pieter Diks of Swiss Sense, show us that good sleep is worth gold at position 312 with 210 million. Robbert Jan Dekker of Royal Dekker, in position 347 with 195 million.
And then we have bathroom baron Rob Teunissen at position 398 with 170 million and kitchen man Bernard ten Brinke, is in position 479 with 135 million.
Finally, Elderenbosch brothers Olaf, Harald and Rolf of Elho, at position 491 with 130 million, who prove that flower pots made of recycled plastic can be worth gold.
